HIFU Skin Tightening in Auckland: Understanding Ozean’s Three HIFU Options

If you are researching HIFU in Auckland or on the North Shore, you may have noticed that not every HIFU treatment is the same. Different systems, handpieces, cartridge depths and treatment protocols can all affect how a treatment is planned.

At Ozean Skin & Hair Clinic in Browns Bay, North Shore Auckland, we offer three levels of HIFU skin tightening:

  • Standard HIFU

  • Advanced HIFU

  • MPT Ultra HIFU

This allows us to select an option according to the treatment area, the degree of skin laxity and the client’s individual suitability.

HIFU is not intended to replace surgery or create an overnight transformation. It is a non-invasive option for clients seeking gradual skin firming and a more defined-looking facial contour without surgical incisions.

Individual responses and results vary.

What is HIFU?

HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. In aesthetic skin treatments, focused ultrasound energy is delivered beneath the surface of the skin at selected depths. The purpose is to create controlled points of thermal energy within the targeted tissue while leaving the outer surface of the skin largely undisturbed.

This controlled energy response is used to support the skin’s natural repair and collagen-remodelling processes. Changes are therefore expected to develop gradually rather than appearing as an instant surgical-style lift.

Clinical research has examined focused ultrasound for facial and neck laxity, particularly around the lower face, jawline, beneath the chin and neck. However, outcomes differ between devices, protocols and individuals, which is why appropriate client selection and realistic expectations are important.

What areas can facial HIFU be used for?

Depending on the client, device and selected cartridge depths, an Ozean HIFU facial may be planned for areas such as:

  • The lower face and jawline

  • The area beneath the chin

  • The neck

  • The cheeks

  • The brow area

  • Selected lines and areas of facial laxity

Some HIFU systems also have deeper cartridges intended for selected body areas. Body HIFU must be planned separately and is subject to suitability and the capabilities of the selected system.

Who may benefit from HIFU skin tightening?

HIFU may be considered by adults who are noticing early or moderate skin laxity and would like a non-surgical skin-tightening option. Common concerns include a jawline that appears less defined, mild jowling, laxity beneath the chin or a neck that no longer feels as firm as it once did.

It may also appeal to people looking for a preventative or maintenance-focused approach as collagen production naturally changes with age.

The best HIFU candidate is generally someone with realistic expectations who understands that the result is gradual and individual. HIFU cannot remove significant excess skin, replace a surgical facelift or guarantee a particular degree of lifting.

Which Ozean HIFU treatment is right for me?

Ozean offers three HIFU options so that treatment can be matched more appropriately to different concerns. A higher cartridge count does not automatically mean that one treatment is better for every person. The right option depends on the areas being treated, the degree of laxity and the depths considered suitable.

Standard HIFU — 3 selected cartridges

Our Standard HIFU treatment uses three selected cartridges and is intended for clients with early or minimal laxity who want a straightforward HIFU facial or maintenance treatment.

This may suit someone beginning to notice subtle changes through the lower face, jawline or neck, without requiring the broader multi-depth approach available in our more advanced options.

The Standard machine may have a wider cartridge range available; the Standard treatment protocol uses three cartridges selected for the client and treatment area.

Advanced HIFU — up to five selected cartridges

Our Advanced HIFU treatment uses up to five selected cartridges. It provides a more comprehensive, multi-depth approach for clients with more established laxity or for treatments covering a broader combination of facial and neck areas.

The Advanced system includes specialised handpieces and a range of cartridges. The cartridges used during an appointment are selected according to the client’s anatomy, the areas being treated and the treatment plan—not simply because every available cartridge must be used.

Advanced HIFU may be considered when Standard HIFU is unlikely to provide the level of customisation required, while still remaining a non-surgical treatment.

MPT Ultra HIFU

MPT Ultra HIFU is Ozean’s newest HIFU option. It should not be confused with Ultraformer; MPT Ultra is the name of the device and treatment system offered at Ozean.

An MPT Ultra treatment may use up to four selected standard cartridges plus one selected Ultra Booster cartridge, depending on the areas treated and individual suitability.

The system includes a range of coloured cartridges representing different treatment depths, together with a separate Ultra Booster handpiece and Booster cartridge range. This gives the therapist additional flexibility when planning treatment for different facial or body areas.

What is included in an Ozean HIFU treatment?

At Ozean, HIFU is incorporated into a complete clinical facial experience rather than treating the technology as a rushed standalone procedure.

Your appointment includes:

  1. A thorough double cleanse

  2. Gentle exfoliation to prepare the skin

  3. Your selected HIFU treatment

  4. An advanced collagen mask

  5. Moisturiser

  6. Sunscreen

Your therapist will also assess the treatment area, discuss the planned cartridges and review the relevant aftercare with you.

When will I notice a difference after HIFU?

Some clients notice an early feeling of firmness, but HIFU is best understood as a gradual treatment. Because it relies on the body’s natural response, visible changes may continue developing over the weeks and months following treatment.

The timing and degree of change vary according to age, skin condition, the level of laxity, treatment area, device settings and individual biological response. Photographs taken under consistent lighting can be useful when assessing gradual change.

Is there downtime after HIFU?

HIFU is generally chosen as a non-invasive treatment with limited interruption to normal activities. Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling, tingling or sensitivity can occur. The sensation during treatment also varies between clients and between areas of the face.

Your therapist will explain what may be expected with the selected HIFU system and what to do if you experience anything unexpected after your appointment.

What HIFU cannot do

HIFU is designed for non-surgical skin tightening and collagen support. It cannot remove substantial excess skin or reproduce the result of a surgical facelift.

It is also not primarily a treatment for pigmentation, visible capillaries, active acne or surface dehydration. Ozean offers other advanced skin treatments for concerns involving skin texture, hydration and surface condition, including EMS Pulse Lift and electroporation. These may be discussed separately or incorporated into a broader skin plan where appropriate.

Is HIFU suitable for everyone?

No. A suitability assessment is required before treatment. HIFU may not be appropriate for some clients because of pregnancy, active skin infection or broken skin in the proposed treatment area, certain medical conditions, implanted devices or other individual considerations.

Clients with significant skin laxity may also be advised that HIFU is unlikely to meet their expectations. Ozean’s aim is to recommend a treatment only when it appears appropriate for the client and the concern being presented.

Frequently asked questions about HIFU

Is HIFU the same as a facelift?

No. HIFU is a non-invasive skin-tightening treatment and does not remove or reposition tissue surgically. The phrase “non-surgical facelift” is sometimes used informally when describing HIFU, but the outcome should not be compared with facelift surgery.

Does HIFU hurt?

Sensation varies. Clients may notice warmth, prickling or brief pulses of intensity, particularly over bony areas. Your therapist will discuss comfort throughout the appointment.

How many HIFU treatments will I need?

There is no single course that suits everyone. The recommended frequency depends on the HIFU system, treatment area, starting level of laxity and response. Your therapist will advise you after assessing your skin and goals.

Can I have HIFU if I have never had it before?

Yes, a first-time client may be suitable for Standard, Advanced or MPT Ultra HIFU. You do not necessarily need to begin with Standard HIFU. Selection is based on suitability and the degree of treatment required—not whether you have previously had HIFU.

What is the difference between Advanced HIFU and MPT Ultra HIFU?

Advanced HIFU uses up to five selected cartridges and includes specialised handpiece options for multi-depth treatment planning. MPT Ultra uses up to four selected standard cartridges plus one selected cartridge from its separate Ultra Booster range. The systems deliver treatment differently, so the choice should be made according to the client and treatment area rather than cartridge count alone.

Is MPT Ultra the same as Ultraformer?

No. Ozean is promoting the MPT Ultra HIFU device, not Ultraformer.
